My Morning Necessities

iced coffee

Each morning my alarm goes off at 5:15 and I recently turned off the snooze button. I was in a wonderful rhythm of getting out of bed by 5:45 (at the latest) and having a lot of time before the kids start to wake up. Well, going out of town last month totally threw that off however there are three things that I need each morning and stay consistent with no matter what time I wake up.  Each and every morning I start with drinking water. I am the person who always has a water bottle with them and that includes bed. And yes, I am the mom who has more than one  Stanley Mug But it also helps me to start my day with water; I get out of bed and I’m immediately able to start drinking water. If for some reason I didn’t sleep with my water bottle near by, I find that I will be drinking coffee before water. And for me that always leads to a headache or just too much coffee.  The second thing that I do each morning is pray and read my Bible. I have a prayer journal where I write out my prayers and I would highly recommend writing prayers out. It’s not a fancy journal or anything beautifully done, simply a place to write down how I’m feeling and give that to God first. When my women’s Bible study is going, this is also where I write shared prayer requests. I love having all of my prayer in one spot; and it’s wonderful to look back on entries and see prayers that have been answered. I’m not perfect at this so there are days that don’t have an entry, but I always thank God and share my prayers for the day to Him. I am currently in a yearly Bible plan and will then read that. Another thing that isn’t done perfect, I’m behind on my plan but God’s timing is perfect. There are many times that what I’m reading lines up perfectly with what I am going through. Other times the chapter I’m on will line up with a sermon or podcast I listen to. I always love when God does that! My last necessity each morning is coffee. I try to make sure I have been awake at least 30 minutes before my coffee. But since we have started Bible club with the kids; I just love having a hot cup of coffee and sitting down at the table to enjoy that time. I have a sign in my kitchen that says “All I need is a whole lot of Jesus and a little bit of coffee” and I feel that truth every day.

Blessings, Ellen
