There are many reasons that burp cloths have been my favorite baby shower gifts, but today I am going to outline three of them for you. And I am not talking about burp cloths that you can buy at the store, I am talking about quality handmade burp cloths! Yes, you can order adorable ones from my website (which would make me do a happy dance) but I’m not the only way to get them. There are TONS of small businesses that sell quality handmade burp cloths. Or you can sew them yourself! Burp cloths are a great beginner sewing project that you can get tons of use from. (A tutorial will be coming in the future) But here we go!
- Burp cloths can be used for years (and if you order from me, they will last that long!) As a mom to four kiddos, I have used everything I make and sell. So I can testify that a burp cloth can be used from day one through the toddler years. And while I know that you probably aren’t dealing with nursing and spit up for that many years, we still will use them to wipe noses for our three year old twins.
- Handmade gifts are one of a kind. They always have a pleasing aesthetic and cute design to them. This makes them stand out and when you’re on that playdate with other moms, and isn’t it more fun is it to use something pretty? Cleaning spit up isn’t so bad when you enjoy what your’e using.
- Now this one is specific to the burp cloths that I make (or if you chose to make your own, you can also do) but they are unbelievably soft! Many burp cloths are made with terrycloth fabric, which is the same as a towel. But I use a very soft fabric similar to baby blanket material, so it’s so so soft on your baby’s face but still absorbent. This is especially nice if your little one ends up having sensitive skin. You won’t worry about it being scratch against those cute little cheeks and it still works great even when they seem to be spitting up more than you could know! We’ve all had those moments where we think to ourselves “How did my newborn have that much milk in them to spit up???”
This may seem like a silly post but we all want to give a baby shower gift that is fun but practical. Which could be added as a fourth reason I love burp cloths. When you give a mom something that is practical but also unique, it is a win-win.
